Open Call: Horror Short Story CollectionDo you have a story that makes hearts race, skin crawl, or spines tingle? 24/7 Stories is seeking short stories for an upcoming horror-themed collection. Stories may cross genres—romance, fantasy, thriller, sci-fi—but they must contain elements of horror.

We offer two distinct ways to submit your story:

Submission Guidelines – Horror Short Story Collection
We’re excited to read your nightmares, monsters, and spine-chilling tales!
Please review the following guidelines before submitting your story.ThemeAll stories must contain elements of horror. Cross-genre submissions (fantasy, romance, sci-fi, thriller, etc.) are welcome, as long as horror is at the heart of the story.Word Count
• Minimum: 200 words
• Maximum: 5,000 wordsTimeline
• Submission Window: Now – December 31, 2026
• Acceptance Notifications Sent By: February 14, 2027 (if not sooner.)
• Editing Period(where you will received edits from me): February 15 – May 15, 2027
• Final, Polished Stories Due Back to Me: July 1, 2027
• Publication Date: October 1, 2027 (just in time for spooky season 👻)Eligibility Requirements
• Submissions must be your original, unpublished work. NO AI WORK WILL BE ALLOWED – You will be required to sign a waiver stating that your work is not AI generated.
• One story per author will be published (unless otherwise approved).
• Writers may submit up to three stories for consideration, but only one story per author will be included in the final collection.
• Include trigger warnings for sensitive content.
Rights & Acknowledgment
• Submitting does not guarantee inclusion. If your story is selected, we will contact you directly.
• By submitting, you confirm that you are the original author and grant permission for your story to be considered for publication.
• Rights: If selected, contributors will retain full rights to their stories. 24/7 Stories retains non-exclusive rights to publish the story within the collection.
• Compensation: Contributors will receive a share of proceeds, distributed based on each story’s word count relative to the full collection for one year following publication.
• Payment Method: Payments will be sent via PayPal on three separate dates at 6, 12, and 18 months after publication. Selected contributors will be asked to provide a PayPal link or email address for payment.

Selection & Blind Judging for Opening FeatureOnce stories are accepted for the collection, all stories will compete for the opening slot of the book.Stories will undergo a second blind judging by a separate judging panel. Authors will be assigned an anonymous ID number to ensure total impartiality. The winning story overall will be awarded the lead position in the book. The Contest Track – One winning piece will receive a special featured section banner in the collection.Ready to Submit?

📜 Official Rules – Horror Short Story Collection ContestThese rules govern the Horror Short Story Collection Contest (“Contest”), organized by 24/7 Stories / Carmen DaVinleam (“Organizer”).By entering, participants agree to the following terms:________________________________________
1. Eligibility
• Open to individuals 18 years or older.
• Open worldwide unless prohibited by law.
• Void where restricted or prohibited.

2. Submission Guidelines
• Stories must be original, unpublished works by the submitting author.
• Word count: 200–5,000 words.
• All stories must contain elements of horror (cross-genre permitted).
• Explicit stories are allowed, as long as content warnings are given.
• Stories must be submitted via the official Google Form link by December 31, 2026 (11:59 PM EST).
• Submissions not meeting these requirements may be disqualified.

3. Entry Tracks
Participants may choose one of two entry tracks:
• Free Submission Track ($0): Story is considered for anthology publication but is not eligible for cash prizes.

• Entry fees for Contest Track must be paid via Ko-fi at the time of submission. Entry fees are non-refundable. (There will be a place on the Google Form to upload a screenshot of your receipt from Ko-fi)

4. Judging Criteria
This is a contest of skill, not chance. Winners will be determined based on the following criteria:
• Originality (25%)
• Quality of writing (25%)
• Effective use of horror elements (25%)
• Overall impact (25%)
Judging will be conducted by a panel of readers and authors chosen by Organizer.
All decisions are final.

5. Prize
• One (1) Grand Prize Winner will receive a cash prize (amount to be announced, based on number of Paid Track entries but not less than $100).
• Prize will be paid via PayPal to the address provided by the winner.
• Odds of winning depend on the number and quality of eligible Paid Track entries.

6. Publication
• Regardless of track, selected stories may be included in the final anthology, to be published on October 1, 2027.
• Contributors will retain all rights to their stories.
• Contributors included in the anthology will receive contributor credit and a share of anthology proceeds (details provided upon acceptance).

• Acceptance notifications: by February 14, 2027

• This contest is organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA.
• This is a literary contest of skill; no purchase is necessary for free entry into the anthology consideration track.
• The Paid Contest Track is optional and solely for prize eligibility.
• By entering, participants release the Organizer from liability related to their entry, prize receipt, or participation in the contest.
